Chandigarh, February 12

Arslan Khan scored a brilliant 147 to help Chandigarh pull off a draw against Tripura on the last day of the Ranji Trophy match, at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium today. In reply to Tripura’s first innings lead of 82, the local side declared their second innings at 359/3. Chasing the target of 277, Tripura lads posted 121/3 at the drawn of the stumps to gain maximum points from this draw.

Chandigarh resumed their last day from their overnight score of 116 with openers Khan and Shivam Bhambri started off in flying colours. They maintained a good composure on the home ground, and helped the side pass the 200-run mark in 50 overs. However, Tripura managed to get the first breakthrough as Bhambri was bowled by Bikram Kumar Das for 98 off 154 balls (with 11 boundaries and one six).

Thereafter, Khan was joined by skipper Manan Vohra and the Chandigarh innings witnessed yet another fruitful partnership of 102 runs. Khan, who was playing at 147 off 189 balls, with 13 boundaries and three sixes, played a loose shot and was caught by Ganesh Satish off Parvez Sultan. Down to 303/2, Vohra started taking risk and played some big shots. He scored 74 off 72 balls.

Having 277-run lead, Chandigarh bowlers had a lot to do for stopping Tripura batters at the lowest total. However, the visitors managed to post 121/3 to reduce the lead.

Gujarat beat Punjab

At IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, hosts Punjab faced a massive 299-run defeat against Gujarat. Resuming from 40/4, the side collapsed at 111 runs. Priyajitsing Jadeja claimed his second five-wicket haul of the match, taking his match tally to 10/99. Skipper Mandeep Singh (18) was the highest scorer for the home team. Besides Jadeja, CT Gaja and A Nagwaswalla claimed two wickets each, while SA Desai picked one.
