Chandigarh, January 28

Chandigarh lads suffered a massive defeat of an innings and 293 runs against host Tamil Nadu in a Ranji Trophy match held at Coimbatore.

In their first innings, Chandigarh lads bundled out at 111, and in reply, Tamil Nadu smashed 610/4. N Jagadeesan, who has the highest individual score for Tamil Nadu in List A cricket (277 vs Arunachal Pradesh), etched his name in the record book again as he scored 321 off 403 balls, studded with 23 boundaries and three sixes. The innings had two more centuries as Pradosh Ranjan Paul (105 off 151 balls, with 13 boundaries and one six) and B Indrajith (123 off 144 balls, with 11b boundaries) smashed Chandigarh bowlers badly.

Facing an uphill task of chasing 499 runs, Chandigarh batters once again failed to perform and were bundled out at 206. The side was down to 109/6, and failed to recover from the loss.

Ankit Kaushik contributed unbeaten 50 off 85 balls, while Mayank Sidhu (38) and Gurinder Singh (36) were the other notable scorers for the side. Kaushik and Gurinder were involved in a 64-run partnership for the 7th wicket to reduce the margin. Chandigarh’s next match will be against Punjab from February 2 at their home ground.
