Rajeev Verma named Chandigarh Adviser

Puducherry Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma has been appointed as the new Adviser to the UT Administrator. As per an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Verma, a 1992-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and other Union Territories) cadre, has been transferred and posted as Adviser to the Chandigarh Administrator with immediate effect and until further order. Verma had been Puducherry’s Chief Secretary since April 2022.

The UT Adviser’s post fell vacant after the retirement of previous incumbent Dharam Pal on October 31. Verma is expected to take charge on Friday. He belongs to Uttar Pradesh. This will be his first posting in Chandigarh. UT Home Secretary Nitin Yadav had been holding the additional charge of the Adviser.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also ordered the transfer and posting of UT Education Secretary Purva Garg, an IAS officer of the 2015 batch of AGMUT-cadre, from Chandigarh to Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Chaudhary Abhijit Vijay, an IAS officer of 2012 batch of AGMUT-cadre, from Puducherry to Chandigarh with immediate effect.
