Punjab’s Amiya enters next round, age fraud allegations mar Day 3

On Day 3 of the All-India Sub-Junior Ranking Tournament, Amiya Sachdeva of Punjab had to fight hard to beat Chandana Gurram of Telangana 18-21, 21-11, 21-18 In the girls’ singles U-13 round. The main draw of the All-India Sub Junior Ranking Tournament-2022 started at Mohali yesterday.

For Fizza Akbani of Maharashtra, it was an easy run to go to the second round beating Jyothika Enjam of Telangana, 21-4, 21-5. Hithaishree Rajaiah of Karnataka also had a long match to beat Ananya Chauhan of Delhi. The match went into three games in favour of Hithaishree 21-14,19-21, 21-12.

The tournament continues to be marred by allegations of age fraud by the parents of competitors and mismanagement in scoring. Many parents staged a protest at the venue and matches had remained held up for close to three hours.
