Punjab University alumni launch association

Punjab former AG Anmol Rattan Sidhu elected chairman

Former Advocate General of Punjab Anmol Rattan Sidhu will chair the Panjab University Chandigarh Alumni Association (PUCAA) launched at an event in the national capital this week. The association will be co-chaired by former minister and sitting BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

The event, where the first team of the association was elected unanimously, was attended by leading alumni of the university, including Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Punjab MLA Kuljit Nagra, Chairman of Regional Urban Infrastructure Committee of FICCI Vineet Nanda, Assam Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Bains, National Defence College Commandant Lt Gen MK Mago and Central Industrial Security Force Director General Sheel Vardhan Singh and environmentalist Radhika Anand among others.

The association, set up with nearly 200 members to start with, elected office-bearers for the maiden committee. Ravinder Singh Sheoran (Law Department 2001-2004 batch) was elected president of the association, Surendra Deswal vice-president, Parull Mahajan (Law Department 2002-2005 batch) secretary and Vineet Nanda treasurer.

Rudy, Sidhu and Sheel Vardhan spoke at the event recalling their respective journeys from the campus to public life. Rudy said, “Only Punjab could have accepted a student from Bihar in the PU campus politics. The reverse can’t happen.” Rudy was secretary of the PU Campus Students’ Council.

Rudy lauded the alumni association acronym PUCCA, saying, “The acronym reflects the spirit of Punjab, one of steadfast commitment to friends.”
