Powercom staff booked for flouting Covid norms

Around seven persons, including president of the Powercom and Transco Contract Employees' Union, Balihar Singh, general secretary Virinder Singh and vice-president Rajesh Kumar, have been booked.

Mohali, July 16

A day after members of the Powercom and Transco Contract Employees’ Union, Punjab, staged a protest at Labour Bhawan, Phase X, Mohali, the police registered a case against them for violating social-distancing norms.

A case has been registered against the protesters under Sections 188, 269, 270 of the Indian Penal Code and 51 of the Disaster Management Act at the Phase 11 police station.

According to the police, around seven persons, including union president of the state, Balihar Singh, general secretary Virinder Singh and vice-president Rajesh Kumar, have been booked. Inspector Jagdeep Singh, Station House Officer at the Phase 11 police station, said, “We have registered an FIR in this regard as the protesters flouted the social-distancing norms.”

Around 150 persons took part in the protest yesterday. — TNS
