Panchkula, August 2

The wait for realising the dream of providing piped LPG gas to Panchkula residents is going to get longer as the project is likely to take more than one year to complete.

The main pipeline for the supply of LPG has to be laid from the Zirakpur side up to Sector 16 and till date, only 10 to 15 per cent of the work has been completed.

Haryana Speaker and local MLA Gian Chand Gupta said after laying the main pipeline, other pipelines of 4-inch size would be laid by the company, which would be further connected with one-inch pipeline to supply cooking gas to the households. He said officials told him that they would start the work on the LPG pipeline only after completing the project of piped natural gas.

On April 14 last year, Gupta had laid the foundation stone of a piped natural gas in the vegetable market ground, Sector 15, in Panchkula which was to be completed in six months. However, only the 50 per cent of the work has been completed so far and as per the authorities concerned, the work is likely to be completed in December this year. Under this project, a 10.85-km pipeline would be laid by Indian Oil-Adani Gas Private Ltd.

Gupta said three CNG filling stations would be set up at petrol pumps in the city. While one of these had already been established, the remaining two would come up soon.
