The PU improved its overall points tally to remain the third best Indian university (among traditional). The university shares the spot with the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, at 34.2 points. In 2019, the PU’s overall points were 32.1.
“The drop in rankings is due to the introduction of more universities in Asia (not in India). Considering the bifurcation points, we have improved,” said Ashish Jain, director, International Quality Assurance Cell, PU.
“These international rankings compare technical institutes with traditional universities, which certainly are not a match in terms of comparison. If we talk about performance of traditional universities, we are at No. 3. The two universities ahead of us have less combined students strength than the PU. It’s a very good achievement in these tough times. All the credit goes to higher authorities, faculty and students of PU,” said Jain.”
THE rankings judge universities across all their core missions — teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.
The PU has left behind University of Delhi, Thapar University and Banaras Hindu University.
“In the last few years, we have made a substantial progress in our research score, which is reflected in these rankings. Ever since, I have taken over the reins of the PU, it has been my endeavour to imbibe culture of research and industry linkages amongst faculty and students. We have been able to initiate a lot of incubative and start-up projects on the campus. The entire credit goes to students and staff of the university,” said Prof Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University.
