Chandigarh, July 8

The UT has constituted a committee of officials from the Municipal Corporation, the Forest Department and the Horticulture Wing of the Administration to visit the schools and other educational institutions to inspect the trees in and around the premises to avoid any such incident in the future.

Keeping in view the rainy season, CB Ojha, Chief Engineer, UT, said the officials had been asked to conduct the survey and submit the report within three days.

According to an order issued by the UT Administration on December 21, 2017, 31 trees were notified as ‘heritage trees’ as there was a danger of losing such major trees. The need was felt to protect such trees and educate the community about the importance of such heritage trees and protecting the city’s tree wealth.
