Panchkula hits a new high with 315 fresh cases

Panchkula, April 15

The district reported 315 fresh coronavirus cases on Thursday, the highest single-day spike so far since the pandemic broke out.

On Tuesday, the district had reported 278 cases, which was till then the highest single-day figure.

High positivity rate a matter of concern

  • The high positivity rate is a concern as a large number of people were found positive among 1,330 samples processed at the Civil Hospital lab.
  • On ‘low collection of samples’, Civil Surgeon Dr Jasjeet Kaur said they were trying to get medical students for assistance in sample collection. “The existing staff are already overworked with multiple duties,” she said.

The Covid toll remained at 160 with no fresh death.

Cremation grounds to be sanitised

  • Amid a record spike in Covid cases, the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has issued instructions to conduct regular sanitisation drives at Sector 20 and other cremation grounds across the city.
  • Instructions have been issued by MC Commissioner RK Singh to civic body officials to visit cremation grounds and ensure sanitisation on a priority basis.

While the overall case tally has reached 15,946, the cumulative recoveries stand at 13,987.

Over 1.08L vaccine doses administered in the district so far

The active caseload is 1,799.

Halfway through the month, over 2,900 cases have been reported from the district, suggesting it could turn out to be worst Covid month since the inception of the pandemic.

When the first wave was at its peak, the district had reported 3,762 infections in September last year.

The August tally stood at 2,044. — TNS
