Panchkula court declines further remand of 3 accused

Declining further remand of Ashwini Sharma, Naveen Kumar and Deputy Secretary of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) Anil Nagar demanded by the Vigilance Department, the Panchkula court today sent the trio to judicial custody till November 26. The three accused were produced in a court after their four-day Vigilance custody ended today.

Last week, Nagar and two others were arrested by the State Vigilance Bureau for allegedly manipulating marks of candidates who appeared in the written examination for recruitment of dental surgeons, conducted in September.

The counsel for the Vigilance Department argued in the court that they had to take Anil Nagar to Gurugram and Rohtak, while Naveen and Ashwani were to be taken to Sonepat for recovering some documents.

However, opposing further remand of Anil Nagar, defence council Vishal Garg Narwana said Nagar was on remand with the Vigilance for four days, but his client was not taken anywhere. He submitted that the Vigilance just wanted to keep Nagar in its custody and was not going to take him anywhere and wanted to force him to sign affidavits. The court, while taking a strong notice on this, refused to give further remand of the three accused, including Nagar.

The Vigilance has recovered one DVR, one hard disk related to HCS pre-exam, one pen drive, OMR and carbon sheet of different roll numbers from the HPSC office.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Vigilance had conducted raids on November 17 after registering a case against Jasbir Singh and Naveen Kumar - owners of a software company. Naveen, a resident of Bhiwani district, was caught red-handed while taking Rs20 lakh in cash. He was produced in the court on November 18 and was sent to police remand the same day.

After obtaining evidence on the basis of interrogation of Naveen, the Vigilance had arrested Ashwani Kuma, a resident of Jhajjar district, and seized Rs1,07,97,000 from his house.
