Over 2L missed due date for second dose of Covid vaccine in Mohali district

Despite a surge in Covid cases, around 2.20 lakh people are yet to receive their second dose of the vaccine even after the due date in Mohali district.

Dr Adarshpal Kaur and District Immunisation Officer Dr Girish Dogra said a total of 10,01,792 people had been vaccinated in the district till date. Out of this, 6,05,326 people had been given both doses. As many as 2,257 people had been given the booster dose. A total of 14,645 children in the age group of 15 to 18 years had also been jabbed.

Civil Surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur said: “The body regains its ability to fight the deadly disease when both doses of the Covid vaccine are administered. If the second dose is not given on time, then there is no point in getting the first dose”.

Covid vaccine is being provided free of cost at all government health facilities. According to information, people from outside the district are also coming to the district to get vaccinated.

The Civil Surgeon, while expressing satisfaction over the pace of immunisation, said it was the result of the joint efforts of the Health Department and the District Administration that a large number of people had been vaccinated in the district. She said there was no shortage of the vaccine in the district. The Civil Surgeon expressed concern over a large number of people not coming forward for the second dose of the Covid vaccine.

She said it was important to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of Covid. She urged people to not step out of homes aimlessly and if there was an urgent need to move out, people should cover their face with mask and maintain necessary distance from each other.

She said emphasised on washing hands with soap and water, frequently. She asked people to visit hospitals in case of any serious problem only. Instead, they can get health advice from experts at the Health Department’s helpline 104.
