Show comments

Mohali, December 11

Delirious scenes were witnessed at the Dappar toll plaza as protesting farmers from the Delhi border started returning home on tractor trolleys. Since afternoon, sweets were distributed and dhol kept reverberating as members of various farm unions were accorded a warm welcome here.

They described it as a “historic victory” and a result of the sacrifices of the farmers who laid down their lives in the year-long struggle.

Clusters of elderly, women and youngsters broke into impromptu Bhangra jigs repeatedly.

Bakshi Singh Bhatti, a Lalru resident, said, “Celebrations will continue as farmer union members are returning triumphant after almost one year. We will honour them and accord them grand welcome as they step into their homeland.”

Local farm union members showered flower petals and garlanded the incoming members as the music blared through the day at the toll plaza. — TNS
