NP Sharma is Chandigarh MC Chief Engineer

Chandigarh: The UT Administration on Thursday appointed Narinder Pal Sharma, Superintending Engineer, PWD (B&R), to the post of Chief Engineer, MC, on deputation. An order issued by Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary, Local Government, stated that Sharma, at present working on the post of Chief General Manager, Smart City, Chandigarh, had been appointed the Chief Engineer, initially for a period of one year or till such time his services were required by the MC, on the standard terms and conditions of deputation with a board or corporation of the UT Administration. However, he will continue to hold the additional charge of Chief General Manager, Smart City, in addition to his newly assigned duties. TNS

Plantation drive at University

Chandigarh: The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, in collaboration with the horticulture wing of the PU, celebrated ‘Van Mahotsava’ by organising a plantation drive in front of the Emerging Area Building. Teachers, staff and students participated in the drive. TNS

PU scholars visit vax centre

Chandigarh: A team of research scholars and students, along with chairperson from the Centre for Social Work, visited the Health and Wellness Centre, Sector 47, for an orientation on the vaccination drive managed through public participation under the stewardship of the local area councillor. TNS

Orders violated, SAD leader fined

Chandigarh: A local court here has imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Vikramjit Singh, social media head of the SAD(B), for violating the orders of the District Magistrate, Chandigarh. Vikramjit, along with other SAD workers, were found raising slogans against the Punjab Government near the dividing road of Sector 26 and 7 here on August 9 last year in violation of the DM’s orders under Section 144 CrPC. As per the order, gathering of five or more persons was prohibited. TNS

Ensure 100 pc vaccination: DEO

Chandigarh: The UT Education Department has asked it affiliated government schools to ensure 100 per cent vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff by July 31. In a circular, the District Education Officer (DEO) stated: “It is advised to ensure 100 per cent vaccination of eligible teaching and non-teaching staff by July 31. Students above the age of 18 years may also be motivated to get vaccinated.” TNS

UT cops sanction ASI’s prosecution

Chandigarh: The UT police have given the sanction for prosecution of Assistant Sub-Inspector Harbhajan Singh. He was arrested by the CBI for allegedly demanding bribe from Air Force employee Dharmpal on February 16. In his complaint, Dharampal, a resident of Lalru, had alleged that Harbhajan Singh sought a bribe for not registering a case against him. The CBI had registered a case against Harbhajan under different sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Later, the court had granted bail to Harbhajan. TNS
