Chandigarh, January 14

UT Health Secretary Yashpal Garg has issued a show-cause notice to Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 23-A, for “zero” vaccination at their camps, which has resulted in the wastage of the vaccine doses.

The Health Secretary has held the school principals accountable for not informing the Health Department in advance that no student has shown interest in the vaccination camps. An explanation has been sought from the schools in three days and appropriate action will be taken, Garg warned.

In the notice, Garg wrote: “Though vaccination teams from the Health Department remained available throughout the day in your school, there was zero vaccination and they had to return without any work. This has not only resulted in the wastage of precious human resources but also prevented the health officials from discharging their duty during the ongoing crisis. It has been decided to stop vaccination in your school with effect from tomorrow.”

An explanation has been sought regarding whether all students enrolled in the schools and those eligible for Covid vaccination were informed about the option for vaccination and the special camp being organised on the premises.

The secretary has also asked the reasons from the schools why the authorities concerned of the Education Department and the Health Department were not informed that none of the student has consented to get vaccinated on January 13. The services of the medical staff could have been used for vaccinating other persons waiting in queues at different vaccination centres.

The explanation should reach the Director, School Education, UT Administration, within three days of issuance of this notice, failing which it will be presumed that you have nothing to say in the matter and appropriate action will be initiated, without further notice, under the relevant acts and regulations, the Health Secretary has warned.
