Navya, Radhika win tennis titles

Second seeds Navya Verma and Radhika Vasudeva outplayed their top-ranking rivals to win their respective titles on the concluding day of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-3) Tennis Tournament here today.

In the boys’ U-16 final, second seed Verma stunned top seed Aryan Thakur in straight sets. Verma won the first set 6-3, followed by identical 6-3 win in the second set to grab the title. Verma played a consistent game and used variation in his shots. He faced some resistance in the second set when Thakur won three games in a row to make it 3-3. However, he kept his head high to close the match in his favour.

Meanwhile, another second seed Radhika won the girls’ U-16 title by defeating top seed Harleen Kaur Dhanda 6-4, 7-5. Radhika won the first set easily. However in the next, she faced a tough competition from Harleen. — TNS
