Mohali, February 18
The police arrested two armed accomplices of foreign-based gangsters and foiled a murder bid on a Mohali-based immigration consultant on February 15.
The suspects, identified as Fazilka resident Sunil Kumar and Kharar resident Kiran Singh, were nabbed during checking as part of the high alert issued due to the Assembly elections while moving around with an aim of a targeted killing.
Three 9-mm pistols, along with 21 live rounds, were seized from them. A motorcycle with a fake registration number was also recovered.
Six suspects — Canada-based gangster Arshdeep Singh Dalla, Australia-based gangster Gurjant Singh, alias Janta, Mohali resident Kiran Singh, Fazilka resident Sunil Kumar, Sirsa resident Gemsdeep Singh, alias Jimmy Chatha, and Mohali resident Randhir Dheera — have been booked under Sections 392, 382, 384, 473 and 120-B of the IPC and 25, 53 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Kharar City police station.
Mohali SSP Harjeet Singh said, “Preliminary interrogation of the two arrested suspects has revealed that they were working on the directions of Gurjant Singh, who was a friend of deceased gangster Jaspreet Singh, alias Jassi. Shooter Sunil Kumar is an accomplice of gangster Arshdeep Singh Dalla who has previously been nominated in cases of extortion and murder. Kiran Kumar is a close associate of Gurjant Singh. Further investigation is on to identify the other culprits involved in this incident.”
Gurjant Singh intended to eliminate the Mohali-based immigration consultant due to old enmity. He coordinated with Arshdeep Dalla and arranged shooter Sunil Kumar to execute the killing, he added.
According to the police, Gemsdeep Singh, an accomplice of Arshdeep Singh Dalla, is learnt to have provided logistics to the arrested duo at the behest of Arshdeep. He was arrested on February 16 with the help of the Haryana Police. Randhir Dheera had provided shelter and a motorcycle to the arrested suspects. Raids are being conducted to arrest him.
