More single-use plastic items banned in Chandigarh

With the nationwide ban on single-use plastic items coming into force from July 1, the UT Administration has prohibited wrapping or packing films around sweets boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets, and plastic or PVC banners less than 100 microns thick in addition to other items already banned in the city.

The Central Government has banned manufacture, sale and use of single-use plastic items such as plates, cups, straws, trays, and polystyrene from July 1.

The administration had imposed a ban on single-use plastic items in 2019. The items included plastic cutlery, thermocol cutlery, plastic containers less than 250 microns used for packaging or covering of food liquid items, plastic bag or pouch for packing food items, drinking water sealed glasses and plastic mineral water pouch, use-and-throw razors, use-and-throw pens, thermocol for decoration purpose, plastic material for decoration purpose, sheets, frills, garland, confetti, plastic ribbons, etc., non-woven polypropylene bags, polythene carry bags, industrial packaging of less than 50 microns, plastic containers less than 250 microns, plastic sachets with packaging capacity of 30 ml/30 gm & less and plastic sticks for ear buds, balloons, flags and candies, etc. — TNS
