Mohali shooters evade arrest, SIT constituted

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today raised the issue of the deteriorating law and order situation of the state and the prevailing gangster culture by terming Mohali “the hub of gangsters” during the Budget meeting of the Punjab Legislative Assembly on Thursday. He spoke, referring to the daylight murder of a gangster near a shopping mall at Sector 67.

Three incidents — a firing at Sector 79 eatery targeted at a Punjabi music producer and two encounters involving gangsters at Chappar Chidi and Sector 71 — have taken place in Mohali this month prior to this daylight shooting of a gangster on March 4.

Four days after the cold-blooded murder of Jammu-based gangster Rajesh Dogra by four-five carborne assailants, the police have not claimed a single arrest in the case. Despite police nabbing an aide of the deceased, his mobile phone, and some documents from the spot, the investigation has not yielded any results.

Police officials said an SIT, headed by SP (Investigation) Jyoti Yadav and DSP (Special Branch) Gursher Singh Sandhu has been constituted to probe the case. Immediately after the incident, Ropar Range Jaskaran Singh said one person accompanying the victim has been nabbed, and their vehicle and mobile phone have also been recovered, adding that the police have sufficient human and technical leads to pursue the case.

The younger brother of the deceased, Rakesh Kumar, said he was concerned for the safety of his four younger brothers and their children from the gangsters in Jammu and the assailants who are on the run.
