Mohali reports 16 new coronavirus cases, district tally rises to 176

With the surfacing of 16 new positive coronavirus cases the tally in Mohali district has reached to 176.

The persons infected with the coronavirus include two male persons aged 23 and 27, both residents of Janta Colony, Nayagaon. Three other male persons aged 21, 57 and 30 are residents of Dera Bassi while two others, including 32-year-old man and 28-year-old woman are residents of Lalru. A 48-year-old man, two others aged 52 and 22, from Lalru, a 19-year-old youth from Kharar have also tested positive. A 40-year-old man, another 38-year-old man, an 11-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy from Kurali, and a 49-year-old man from Dhakoli have also tested positive.

Giving details, Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh said 23-year-old and 57-year-old patients are contact of positive patients while 30-year-old, 16-year-old and 48-year-old, 19-year-old (all males) had a travel history to Delhi while 22-year-old, 40-year-old and 11-year-old had travel history to Uttar Pradesh, 16-year-old from Mumbai. He said health teams have been rushed to the area to take the samples of the family members of the covid-affected persons and their possible contacts.

Dr Manjit Singh said the affected area of the villages has been completely cordoned off and the people living in the vicinity have also been directed to stay indoors.  He said with the emergence of new cases in the district on Sunday, the total number of positive cases is 176 and the number of active cases has risen to 56 while a total of 117 patients have recovered and three have died so far.

While again warning the residents of the district, the Dr Manjit Singh said the threat of coronavirus is still there and the people need to be more vigilant. He said the health department has been doing its best to curb the spread of the disease but without the cooperation and support of the people, it is very difficult to completely eradicate the disease.
