Mohali MC to provide needy with food, shelter

Decides to identify homeless and hungry who are living on streets and corridors

The Municipal Corporation has decided to identify homeless, needy and hungry people living on streets and corridors to provide them with food and shelter.

MC Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg said Rs 15 lakh each will be spent on food and shelter for the homeless and needy.

Kamal Kumar Garg said spraying of disinfectant was in full swing in the city, villages and colonies. He said the main targets are housing societies, villages where people live in close proximity. He said the spraying was also being done at markets also apart from housing societies, villages and community parks where people have been gathering.

Garg said priority were housing societies where residents live in a large numbers and are allowed to come out of their flats inside the walled premises of the society. Spraying of disinfectant is being done on the parked vehicles in congested areas to be on the safer side. He said services of fire department officials for providing vehicle which is being used to carry out spraying activity by sanitation department employees have been taken. The MC has an ample of disinfectant medicine as they had sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for fogging in the city.

Garg said spraying had been done at parks, open-air gyms, district administrative complex, district courts, bus stand, ATMs and various markets of phases 3A, 5, 7 and Sector 69 where patients of coronavirus positive case were found.

Mayor Kulwant Singh said the MC would also coordinate with four to five gurdwaras located in various areas and would provide ration for preparing food so that the needy persons could visit these shrines and have food. He said the MC would also make announcement in the city, villages and colonies where the poor people could get food.
