Mohali, June 15

The Mohali Municipal Corporation unanimously passed all resolutions, except the one regarding mobile towers, that were presented before the House during a meeting held through video-conferencing here today.

The MC has kept pending the decision on installing mobile towers in the city as it has sought allocation of places for the towers from the Local Government Department.

The meeting was chaired by Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu and attended by Senior Deputy Mayor Amrik Singh Somal, Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi, Commissioner Kamal Garg and MC officials.

For the first time, the MC has passed a resolution for sampling of works to be carried out by it for transparency. Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said another resolution was passed and sent to the government for extending the contract of sanitation workers for two months and to recruit safai sevaks at DC rates. The contract of ‘Rainbow’, a company that has been collecting garbage during the pandemic, has been extended by six months.

Bedi said the allotment of space requested by Markfed for 10 booths at different places in the city had been approved. A resolution was also passed regarding new sites requested by Verka, he added.

Bedi said a resolution had been passed to reconstitute the town vending committee, which was dissolved after five years. He said the MC House had given the authority to the Mayor to nominate a new committee. Besides, the House had also authorised the Mayor to hand over parks to various RWAs in Mohali for maintenance.

Bedi said to rid the city of stray dogs, the House passed a resolution seeking expression of interest for survey of stray dogs.

In a major relief to traders, industrialists and small-time business houses, the MC House decided to reduce the penalty imposed on renewal of trade licences every year.
