Chandigarh, February 24

The local municipal corporation (MC) today initiated the GIS-based mechanical and manual sweeping project in 13 villages and Mani Majra.

Managed by the Mumbai-based Bhumika Pragati JV firm, the project ensures that sanitation standards in these areas align with the rest of the city.

As part of the initiative, main roads will be mechanically swept at night, while footpaths and dustbins will be washed and cleaned, wild grass will be removed, and manual sweeping and drain cleaning will be carried out in designated areas. These activities will be monitored through exclusive software and a mobile application at the command and control centre.

Under the project, manual sweeping will be undertaken on 247-km length of roads, while 43 km will see mechanical sweeping. Cleaning of park area of 38 lakh sq ft spread across 10 MC wards will be part of the project.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor expressed his happiness at the start of this significant project. He assured that the 13 villages and Mani Majra would be taken care of just like any other part of the city. He stated that differences in terms of sanitation and development would soon be evident.

MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra said the initiative showcased an unwavering commitment of the civic body towards progressive development. She highlighted the significant progress made, moving from the 66th position in the Swacch Sarvekshan 2021 to the 11th position in the 2023 survey.
