Mechanic crushed to death in hit-and-run in Dera Bassi

A 32-year-old motorcyclist was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck near Bhankarpur on the Ghaggar bridge around 11 pm on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Mubarikpur resident Babbu Kumar, who used to work as a motorcycle mechanic.

The victim was coming from Zirakpur when a speeding truck hit him and crushed him under the wheels. Due to the mishap, there was traffic jam on the busy Chandigarh-Ambala highway. The police rushed to the spot and cleared the traffic. The police said the truck driver fled from the spot after the accident. The police handed over the body to the deceased’s kin after a post-mortem at the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. A case has been registered against the unidentified driver at the Dera Bassi police station. The victim is survived by his wife and three children. — TNS
