Panchkula, January 20

The police today booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a 12-year-old girl here.

In her complaint to the police, the mother of the victim, who had gone to attend a marriage, alleged that her daughter was kidnapped by an uncle of the groom, who was set to get married in Kharak Mangoli here. She alleged that groom’s uncle Beera, who is the father of three children, took her daughter away.

Rajiv Miglani, SHO at the Sector 5 police station, said, “The police have registered a case under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her for marriage, etc,) of the Indian Penal Code.”

As the groom accompanied the victim’s mother to the Sector 7 police post, rumours spread on the social media that a ‘baraat’ had been taken into custody. However, police officials refuted the news. — TNS
