Panchkula, March 7

Three assailants, who attacked an octogenarian couple resulting in the death of the woman at Sector 2 here on Wednesday, had reached house with the sole motive of loot, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Mukesh Malhotra today.

Malhotra said the three boys, one of whom had earlier worked for the couple as a caretaker, had plotted the attack. In the preliminary investigation, the police have ruled out any hostility between the assailants and the couple.

The gruesome murder took place around 1 pm. The elderly couple, their maid Ram Murti and newly hired driver were at home, while the Colonel’s daughter, Anuradha Sharma, was away to the nearby market.

Anuradha, in her complaint to the police, said the three persons attacked her parents in order to loot them.

Malhotra said the case stood solved with the arrest of the three assailants, Vijay, a native of Bareilly in UP, and Bittu and Vijay, both residents of Kharak Mangoli in Sector 7 here.

He said Vijay had worked for the couple around six months ago. “He visited the house along with his accomplices on the pretext of meeting the couple and attacked both with the intention to loot them. They had a sharp weapon and a long knife,” he said.

The police have also ruled out the possibility of involvement of driver Deepak in the whole affair. He was the only individual who was not harmed by the assailants. Moreover, he was seen casually walking out of the home along with the assailants, which raises suspicion over his involvement.

Malhotra said the three assailants had threatened the driver and made him accompany them to the nearby highway after the crime.

The detective staff nabbed the killers within 12 hours after the crime. “The three were nabbed at Vikas Nagar here while they were attempting to flee around 11 pm on Wednesday. They had plans to shift to UP,” he said. They said RK Sharma and maid Ram Murti are out of danger.

Involvement of driver ruled out

The police have ruled out the possibility of involvement of driver Deepak in the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Mukesh Malhotra said the three assailants had threatened the driver with dire consequences and made him accompany them to the nearby highway after the crime.
