Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Punjab AAP MLAs, leaders booked for staging protest in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The UT police have booked AAP MLAs and their supporters for staging a protest near Punjab MLA Hostel, Sector 4, in violation of the District Magistrate’s orders. The police registered a case against AAP MLAs Aman Arora, Master Baldev Singh, Kulwant Singh Pandori, Jai Krishan Singh, Manjit Singh and Saravjit Kaur Manuke, and party leaders Anmol Gagan Maan, Jarnail Singh and others at the Sector 3 police station on a complaint of Constable Vinod Kumar. The complainant and two other constables — Parveen and Anu — were injured while stopping the protesters from marching towards the Punjab Governor’s house in protest against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. All four Wheels of car stolen

Chandigarh: All four wheels of an i10 car parked in Zirakpur were reportedly stolen on Wednesday night, claimed the vehicle owner, Hans Raj Sharma. TNS

Man nabbed for beating up dog

Chandigarh: The UT police registered a case under Section 429 of the IPC and Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at the Maloya police station on a complaint of Amandeep Singh, who alleged that Mohan Lal Khattari and others beat up a stray dog at Dadu Majra village on October 5. The suspect was arrested in the case. TNS

One booked for cheating

Chandigarh: A city resident has been booked for cheating. In his complaint to the police, Vikramjit Kaushik of Sohana, Mohali, alleged that Dipinder Singh Brar from Sector 5 and others sold 50 per cent share of a house to him, but they did not vacate it and give complete physical possession to him. A case of cheating has been registered at the Sector 17 police station. TNS

Sarthak-Aditya win doubles title

Mohali: Sarthak Gandhi and Aditya Chauhan defeated Uday Batra and Samerpreet Singh (6-1 6-2) to win the boys’ U-18 doubles title on the penultimate day of the Roots-AITA CS 7 National Ranking Championship. In the boys’ U-18 singles semi-finals, Gandhi defeated Shantanu Srikumar (6-3 6-3) and Chauhan ousted Upnishad Bharadwaj (6-2 6-7(8) 6-4). In the girls’ U-18 semis, Riya Kaushik outplayed Gursimrat Kaur (5-7 6-3 7-6(1). Isheeta Midha won the second semis by defeating Rasha Dhaliwal (6-1 6-3). TNS

Awareness camp held

Chandigarh: The UT Labour Department organised an awareness camp regarding registration of unorganised workers on the e-Shram portal, near Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12, here, on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated by Manish Kumar Lohan, Joint Secretary (Labour), UT. During the camp, the Joint Secretary (Labour) mobilised around 250 unorganised workers and appealed representatives of the unions concerned to get all unorganised workers working in Chandigarh sphere registered. Lohan said more such camps would be organised in near future with the assistance of representatives of the Common Service Centre. TNS
