Chandigarh, September 15

As the elections for the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) are slated to be held on September 25 and 16, the contesting members have intensified their campaign.

Mohammed Khalid, who is contesting for the post for PUTA president, said, “We are a teacher-centric group with no political or senatorial affiliations. Our struggle has always been for the welfare of teachers and addressed those issues, which confront them in their professional and academic life. We are committed to working on issues such as counting of past service of scores of teachers, which is hanging in fire for the last many years and CAS promotions of the colleagues pending since long.”

MC Sidhu, who is contesting for the post of secretary said, “Some of the departments are running only with one or two teachers. In other departments, many faculty positions are lying vacant since long, thereby affecting the teaching and research. This needs to be addressed. The university should provide Internet facilities in residential areas and implement the 7th Pay Commission along with arrears from 2016.”
