Panchkula, January 20

With barely six days to go for Republic Day, the CM Flying Squad conducted a raid on the house of a Kalka resident and seized arms and ammunition from him last evening.

The suspect has been identified as Tarvindra Singh, a resident of Tagra village in the Kalka block.

The CM Flying Squad conducted the raid, along with the local CID unit, under the supervision of CID Inspector Jagbir Singh.

Sidharth Dhanda, DSP, CM Flying Squad, Ambala Range, said they had received information from a source about the suspect being in possession of illegal weapons.

“Upon receiving the inputs, our team, along with the local police, traced the suspect and found him near his house in an empty field,” he said.

“We arrested him and recovered a pistol from a pocket of his trouser. He failed to produce the licence of the weapon. During questioning, he revealed that live cartridges and other weapons were also kept at his relative’s house,” reads the FIR filed at the Kalka police station.

“Upon searching his relative’s house, weapons, including pistols, magazines, live rounds, sharp weapons and swords, were recovered,” Sidharth said. The suspect was today produced in a court, which sent him to two-day police remand.

Inspector Karambir Singh, SHO of the Kalka police station, said the suspect was being questioned in this regard. Sources said the suspect apparently used the weapons for trapping snakes and wild animals.

A senior cop said they also recovered cages and the entire set-up for trapping animals. An FIR under Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered. —
