Janata Curfew: GoAir suspends all flights; IndiGo, Vistara cut operations

Private airliner GoAir has suspended its flight operations from the Chandigarh international airport to various destinations in the country in view of the “Janta curfew” on Sunday. While, IndiGo Airlines has cancelled four flights.

GoAir, in its announcement made today, has declared that all its flights arriving and departing from the Chandigarh international Airport would remain grounded on March 22.

Spokesperson of the Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) said they have received information from the office of GoAir that it will not operate its flights on Sunday. GoAir operates seven flights from Chandigarh to Delhi, Mumbai, Srinagar, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad on daily basis. However, he added that there is no advisory to shut down the operations at Chandigarh International Airport on Sunday. He said all the employees of AAI having duties on Sunday have been asked to report on time.

GoAir manager said, “GoAir is responding to the clarion call given by Prime Minister Modi to lead the nation in stemming the spread of coronavirus. GoAir voluntarily suspends all flights on March 22 in support of the Janta curfew. GoAir will protect all the PNR’s dated March 22 in view of the curfew for a period of one year and customer can contact GoAir at any time over next one year to redeem their air tickets on any GoAir flight on any date with no changes being levied.”

Meanwhile, IndiGo, country’s largest domestic airline, has also decided to ground its four out of eight flights from the city to various destinations in view of the Janta curfew.

Spokesperson of IndiGo Airlines said one flight each to Patna, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Goa have been cancelled. Meanwhile, Vistara has also cancelled its two flights, one each to Delhi and Mumbai from the local airport due to operational reasons on Sunday.

Confirming the same spokesman of Vistara said they have decided to ground their four flights two each to Delhi and Mumbai from March 23 to March 27 due to operational reasons.
