Mohali, February 19

Broken iron grills, hanging out dangerously on to roads on dividers at several places in Mohali, pose a serious threat to motorists with the authorities concerned turning a blind eye to lurking danger.

During a random survey of roads in the town, shattered iron grills on road dividers could be seen at several places. Some of these were positioned dangerously, posing a serious threat to road users.

Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, RP Sharma, a local councillor, said iron grills were broken at many places due to accidents. “At some points, local residents too are responsible for breaking grills to make unauthorised way to cross roads. The worrying part is that nobody bothers to get these repaired,” lamented Sharma.

Expressing similar sentiments, a local resident, Deepak Kumar, said he recently had a narrow escape when his car touched a part of one such iron grill on the road leading from Phase 3A to Chandigarh. “I was going to Chandigarh late in the evening when I had a brush with the ‘unexpected danger’ on the road. Despite my best efforts to avoid a mishap, the grill touched my vehicle and damaged it,” he said.

A senior official of the Mohali Municipal Corporation claimed that the repair work of all such iron grills would be done soon.
