International conference on cancer research concludes

The 6th International Conference on Nutraceuticals and Chronic Diseases, a three-day programme dedicated to translational cancer research, concluded at the biochemistry department of Panjab University today with emphasis on using organic compounds in cancer cure.

The event featured delegates from countries like US and Japan, and institutions like the IIT, AIIMS, centre and state universities. Navneet Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Conservator of Forests, UT, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Murali Yallapu, co-director of the medicine and oncology unit at the South Texas Centre of Excellence in Cancer Research, US, discussed the urgent need for natural compounds in cancer treatment.

University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Prof Indu Pal Kaur highlighted the significance of nanotechnological approaches in enhancing the bioavailability of nutraceuticals.

Dr Monika Garg, Scientist-F at the National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute in Mohali, presented a research on nutraceuticals, which focused on developing black wheat varieties enriched with anthocyanins, iron, and zinc to combat malnutrition and address health challenges like obesity and diabetes.
