Illegal structures razed

Patiala, December 3

Officials of the MC today demolished 18 illegal structures outside houses on a road leading to Gurdwara Moti Bagh Sahib in the city.

Civic body officials said these structures were over two decades old. The MC had served notices to violators responsible for encroachments two years ago, officials added. The issue had also reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said officials. Notices were sent to violators after checking revenue records, officials added.

Those responsible for encroachments created ruckus during the demolition drive. They were managed with help of the police. Mayor Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said house owners would not be allowed to construct illegal structures. A green belt could be created on the site, he added.

“The MC will not allow illegal construction in the city. We will remove all encroachments,” he said. — TNS
