Mohali, November 3

The Mohali Municipal Corporation officials today visited the Dashera ground near Phase 7 and found several unauthorised cracker stalls there.

Vendors were seen doing brisk business throughout the day with buyers from Mohali, Chandigarh and nearby areas thronging stalls.

Officials of the civic body said only 14 vendors had been given license to sell crackers. There were more than 14 stalls at the allocated space, officials added. Sources said some of the vendors were without license but managed to put up a stall, courtesy influential people.

The administration allotted 40 temporary licences for the sale of firecrackers throughout the district. The bursting of crackers is allowed in Mohali between 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali.

The state government has announced a two-hour time to light green firecrackers on the occasion of Diwali and Gurpurb in Punjab.
