Chandigarh, March 7

A day after a six-year-old girl was found murdered near the Hallo Majra light point, the UT police today added the rape charge to the case. A protest was also staged at Hallo Majra by residents demanding that the suspect should be booked for rape too.

A police official said although the postmortem report was yet to be received, Section 376 (rape) of the IPC was added to the case.

The semi-naked body of the victim was founded dumped in the forest area on Saturday morning, around 15 hours after she had gone missing. Her face was smashed with a stone.

The footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area led to the identification of the 12-year-old suspect, who was seen taking the girl on a bicycle.

The suspect was later apprehended by the police. — TNS
