The construction of the proposed flyover from the PGIMER to Sarangpur village may be delayed further as the consultant hired to conduct the geo-technical study is yet to submit the report.

The Engineering Department, UT, had prepared a plan to construct a 1.75-km-long road with 1.3-km flyover to provide seamless movement of traffic between the PGIMER and Sarangpur after bypassing traffic bottlenecks Khuda Jassu and Khudda Lahora villages in the city. The four-lane elevated road will be nearly 19.1-m wide with the carriageway width of 17.5 metres.

For feasibility of the project, the department had appointed General Highways and Infracon Private Limited as consultant to conduct the geo-technical study of the area in the first week of June and asked the firm to submit the report within one month.

A senior official of the Engineering Department said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the firm was asked to submit the report by end of this month. He, however, said the consultant was likely to give the report by the end of next month.

The official said after getting the report, the department would require various clearances, including environment, before finalising the design and cost of the project.

The proposed road will provide congestion-free movement to people going to New Chandigarh and Baddi in Himachal Pradesh and vice versa. The road will also provide hassle-free movement to the people going to Sarangpur institutional area where a number of projects are coming up, including the extension campus of the PGIMER.
