Four booked for blackmail in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Four suspects have been booked for forcibly entering the house of Ward No. 34 councillor Gurpreet Singh and blackmailing him by posing as journalists on Saturday. They have been identified as Yamunanagar resident Satish Kumar, Naraingarh resident Rajkumar, Panxhkula resident Narinder and a woman of Pinjore. They were arrested under preventive measures and later released on bail. Sources said Satish ran a weekly evening newspaper in Yamunanagar and two other suspects were his emplouees. TNS

Youth flees with cash box of kiosk

Chandigarh: A youth fled with the cash box containing Rs 15,000 from a kiosk at Bapu Dham on Wednesday. The youth approached the elderly shopkeeper and engaged her in talks. Finding an opportunity, he fled with the cash box. The incident, which took place barely 500m from the police post, was captured in a CCTV camera. The police are scanning the CCTV footage to identify the thief.
