Fire breaks out at utensils shop in Mohali

Plastic articles worth several lakhs destroyed

Fire broke out at a utensils shop in Mohali village today morning. No loss of life was reported in the incident, but goods worth several lakhs were gutted in the fire.

Fire engines were rushed to the spot to douse fire that had engulfed the second floor. Firemen were able to control fire within half an hour.

Surinder Kumar, owner of the shop, said they were yet to calculate the actual loss, but utensils worth several lakhs kept on the first and second floor were destroyed.

Fire Officer Mohan Lal Verma said fire broke out at 10 am on the second and first floor at Sunder Bartan Store.

He said six fire engines were pressed into the service and they controlled fire in 30 minutes.

He said exact reason for fire was yet to be ascertained, but short circuit appeared to be the likely cause.
