Mohali, January 4

Residents of Phase 3B1 are elated after the Mohali Municipal Corporation gave its nod to construct a community centre at the site, which housed the District Courts.

Councillor Harmanpreet Singh Prince said recently, a resolution related to construction of the community centre was passed by the MC House.

“A sum of Rs 3.5 crore will be spent on the community centre, which will be centrally air-conditioned and soundproof. All facilities will be provided at the centre,” said Prince. He said construction work will start after completion of tendering process.

The councillor added that apart from the community centre, residents also wished to have sports complex on upper floor of the building.

“We have already submitted a memorandum in this regard to the authority concerned,” said the councillor.

It is pertinent to be mentioned that the District Courts were shifted here in 2006 after Mohali was made a district. Later, the District Courts were shifted to Mohali Judicial Complex, Sector 76, in 2015, but the site was not handed over to the civic body.

“The community centre will not only cater to residents of Phase 3B1 and 3B2, but will also facilitate people of other areas, including Phase 5, 7, 3A and 4, among others,” said the councillor.
