Chandigarh, February 24

Finally, the road recarpeting work started in the city today. Officials said they started the pending work as the weather was now conducive for it.

Mayor Raj Bala Malik had last week directed officials to start the work on Monday. Today, she visited V5 road in Sector 43. The second road where recarpeting work began is near St Kabir School in Sector 26.

“Sector 26 had the worst road so we have started the work there. We had to start the work from Sector 33-34, but there was some issue with the contractor. The work will be started there later,” Raj Bala told Chandigarh Tribune.

The Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs 100 crore for road works to be undertaken during the 2020-21 fiscal.

Lack of funds has cast a shadow on carrying out the pending road works.

On records, the civic body has prepared a list of road recarpeting at 150 different places, pending since 2017-18 and 2018-19. Road recarpeting works are pending at 44 places in the city for the fiscal 2019-20.
