Show comments

Mohali, October 15

Dasehra was celebrated with fervour in the district today. No untoward incident was reported during the celebrations, which took place at only 14 places instead of 30 in the district. At the Dasehra ground in Phase 8, 15-foot-tall effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarana and Meghnad, along with an effigy of Covid-19, were erected. The festival was celebrated in a simple way. In Phase 1, Dasehra was celebrated at two places - Ranbaxy Park and the old DC office.

Some housing societies had also installed small effigies of the demons, which were set on fire without using crackers in Mohali.

In Kharar, Dasehra was celebrated near the sarovar, in Dera Bassi, at the Ramlila ground and in Lalru, it was celebrated at the Army ground. With the celebrations in full swing, the traffic police had a tough time in managing the traffic. Chaos and traffic snarls were a common sight in several areas of Mohali.

Long queues of vehicles were seen on the road separating Phase VII and VIII, at Sector 70, Kumbhra Chowk, the Phase VII traffic light point, near the DC office in Phase I and on the Phase IX road. The worst affected were roads in areas where the effigies of demons were burnt as motorists stopped to witness the show. — TNS
