Panchkula, December 14

Farmers, under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Haryana, staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here in response to a call given by heads of the agitating farm unions against the farm laws.

They gathered at the protest site by noon following a march from their respective villages in Kalka, Pinjore, Barwala, Raipur Rani and other parts of the district. The protesters raised slogans against the government for its ‘adamant attitude’ on the issue of the farm laws.

On December 12, the farmers took over the Chandimandir and Barwala toll plazas in Panchkula, preventing officials from collecting toll tax from commuters for around six hours.

As the deadlock over new farm laws continues after several rounds of meetings between farmers’ representatives and the Central Government, farmers will further intensify their protest to build pressure on the Modi government to repeal the laws.

BKU district president Narender Singh Nayagaon said they would send more tractor-trailers to join the tail of vehicles stuck on the National Highway stretched up to 10 km. The tractor trailers would be sent tomorrow from Karanpur and Manakpur Devi Lal villages.
