Faculty protest at PUTA poll site

Show comments

Chandigarh, September 25

A day after the Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) elections were postponed, the Mohammed Khalid and MC Sidhu group today organised a protest at the poll site to show resentment against the decision.

“The elections became a tragedy of errors as the Secretary acted in an arbitrary manner and trampled our democratic rights,” said members of the Mohammed Khalid and MC Sidhu group.

In a statement issued by PUTA Secretary JK Goswamy, he stated: “PUTA executive is very much in place. Have patience and wait for the date of elections. We are sure that we will get the required permission soon.”

PUTA elections scheduled on September 25 and 26 were postponed a day before voting on Thursday. The decision came after six teachers of the university wrote to Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar and registrar, seeking intervention in the postponement of the polls. — TNS
