Mohali, July 9

An elderly farmer of Baroudi village was killed after being hit by a luxury car near a filling station yesterday.

The police said the deceased, identified as Ratan Chand, a resident of Baroudi village near Kurali, was coming back from the farmers’ protest against the hike in fuel prices near the Baroudi toll plaza. While trying to cross the highway, he was standing on the median when he lost balance and came on the road. A speeding BMW car, coming from the Kurali side, hit him and sped away.

The registration number of the car was traced through CCTV footage. — TNS
