Minister for School Education and Higher Education Pargat Singh today said Punjab would soon set up an Education Regulatory Authority.

Addressing students on the “Role of Higher Education” at Rayat Bahra University, Pargat Singh said there was a need for an academia-industry interface to ensure that students passing out from universities and other institutions get proper employment.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Pargat Singh said education needed to be made more affordable to check the immigration of youth.

The minister said emphasis should be laid on domain skill, soft skill and industry-interface.

There should be special focus on entrepreneurship skill development with international exposure, he said.

The universities should introduce selective courses in relevant fields in partnership with industry leaders by having futuristic outlook and employability driven curriculum to increase the employment potential of the passing out students, said Pargat.

The minister also lauded the work being done by the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions.

Pargat was accompanied by former MP Sandeep Dixit.

PU 6th best in India

Chandigarh: Panjab University has been ranked sixth in India in the latest US News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings. The university is 152nd among global universities in Asia and 679th in the world. The survey has been conducted on two separate ranking indicators - global research reputation (12.5 per cent) and regional research reputation (12.5 per cent). The regional indicator significantly increased the international diversity of the rankings, since it focused on measuring academics' opinions about other universities within their region, including bibliometric indicators.
