Chandigarh: Iqbal, a resident of Mani Majra, reported his motorcycle was stolen from near his residence on the night of April 30. In another case, a Maloya resident reported that an unknown person stole her e-rickshaw from her residence on the night of May 6. Cases have been registered. TNS

'Vaccinate 18 to 45 age group'

Chandigarh: Senior Deputy Mayor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu has urged UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore to start vaccination drive for the 18-45 age group in the city. Sidhu said the ones who had already registered for the vaccination might be called serial wise as per the availability of vaccine doses. The BJP councillor also requested the UT Administration to cap and notify rates for Covid-19 treatment in private hospitals. It will help avoid overcharging and exploitation, he said. TNS

2 snatchers land in police net

Dera Bassi: The police arrested two suspects while they were fleeing after bid to snatch gold earrings from a woman in the main market here on Saturday. The suspects have been identified as Harpinder Singh, a resident of Samrala, and Jaspal Singh, a resident of Ropar. Nagla resident Manpreet Kaur stated that she was coming from a hospital when the duo came on a bike and the pillion rider tried to snatch her gold earrings. The victim raised an alarm, following which the suspects were nabbed. A case has been registered. TNS

Youth nabbed on kidnapping charge

Lalru: The police arrested a 21-year-old Nepalese national in a kidnapping case of a seven-year-old girl near Dappar within 24 hours. A case under Section 365 of the IPC was registered against the suspect at the Lalru police station on May 6. Complainant Bhaso Devi, a native of Madhepura, Bihar, who is residing in Dappar, stated that an unknown person kidnapped her daughter from her home. The police arrested the suspect, Ranjit, who resides in Dappar. They handed over the minor girl to her family members. During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he worked as a labourer in fields in Dappar and kidnapped the girl as he wanted to take her to Nepal along with him. He was unable to do so because of lockdown. TNS

Toddler hit by car, dies

Chandigarh: A two-year-old boy was killed after a car ran him over while being reversed on an inner road of Raipur Khurd here on Friday. In his complaint to the police, the boy’s father, Shivam, stated that the car driver, Gulshan Kumar, a resident of Dariya, crushed his son Kartik while he was playing near his house. The child was rushed to the GMCH-32 where doctors declared him dead. A case was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. The car driver was arrested for causing death due to negligent driving and later released on bail. TNS

Female foetus found in Burail

Chandigarh: An unknown woman has been booked for secretly abandoning a female foetus near Gali No 1, Burail, on the night of May 6. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Nine lockdown violators nailed

Chandigarh: The police have arrested nine persons in different cases registered under Section 188 of the IPC. They were found roaming without e-pass/permit, disobeying the orders of the District Magistrate, UT, on May 7. They were later released on bail. TNS
