Mohali, December 27

The District Health Department has made it mandatory for all food business operators (FBOs) to mention licence/registration number on cash receipts, invoices and bills from January 1 next.

Disclosing this here today, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Subhash Kumar said the rule was being implemented across the country from January 1, 2022 by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for the convenience of people. He said through this registration number, which is issued by the FSSAI or the Health Department, customers would be able to ensure that the shopkeepers from whom they are buying any food item had licence/registration number or not.

The DHO said several people visit the Health Department office to get food safety licence, but this process was fully online. He said under the Food Safety Act, sweetmeat shop owners would have to mention the expiry date of sweets. — TNS
