Panchkula, February 11

Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta has set an ambitious target to make the city stray-cattle-free within a few months.

Addressing a gathering at a programme that focused on city development, Gupta spoke about solutions to problems such as the stray-cattle menace, environmental initiatives, and various development schemes of the government.

Gian Chand Gupta talked about the initiatives that have been undertaken for cattle welfare so far. He said five gaushalas have been established in the city, providing shelter to about 20,000 cows, adding that the state government’s commitment to cattle protection is reflected in the increased budget of ‘Haryana Gau Seva Ayog’, which now stands at Rs 400 crore.

The speaker also spoke about measures to combat drug abuse in the city. He said the initiatives of the city to curb this menace align with PM Modi’s vision of a drug-free India by 2030. He added that various seminars and workshops have been organised at educational institutions aimed at raising awareness among youth about the harmful effects of drugs, not only on the person but also on the addict’s family.

Talking about the state government’s efforts towards environmental sustainability, he said that an ‘Oxyvan’ is being established near the Ghaggar River, adding that this initiative is aimed at improving the air quality here. Gupta said that efforts are also being made to make Panchkula plastic-free.

Gupta also spoke about the development work that the state government has accomplished at Panchkula. He said that development works amounting to Rs 5,500 crore have been completed over the past decade.
