Day after, Mohali cops yet to arrest suspects

A day after a 35-year-old painter was allegedly killed by six unidentified persons over a petty issue at Badmajra village near Balongi here, the police are still groping in the dark about the suspects.

SP (Investigation) Harmandeep Hans said: “No arrest has been made so far. We have formed several police team to investigate the case. We hope to crack the case soon.”

The victim, Sanjay Yadav, a resident of Badmajra village and a native of Uttar Pradesh, was working here as a painter.

The incident took place around 11.30 pm on Saturday night near the victim’s house. Sanjay saw three persons urinating near his house. As he objected to their act, they started abusing him and a scuffle broke out between them following a heated exchange.

The assailants repeatedly attacked Sanjay on his legs with a knife. They also hit him on his head using a brick.

A case of murder was registered at the Balongi police station. The body was handed over to his family members after conducting a post-mortem examination.

Dr Charan Kamal Singh, who conducted the victim’s post-mortem at the Civil Hospital, said the main vein of his thigh was found cut. The victim’s head had deep cuts and injury marks.
