Three more residents of the city died of Covid today, taking the toll to 18.

A 55-year-old woman of Kishangarh died at the Civil Hospital in Sector 48 here on Friday night. She had comorbid conditions of diabetes. She was admitted with acute respiratory distress syndrome five days ago.

The second victim was a 75-year-old woman of Sector 37, who succumbed at Ivy Hospital in Mohali on Friday night. She had complained of giddiness on July 25 and was taken to the hospital two days later on exacerbation of breathlessness. She tested positive for Covid on July 30. She had comorbid conditions of hypertension, diabetes and airway disease.

A 96-year-old man of Sector 45, who died at the GMCH-32 on July 30, tested positive for the virus today. He had suffered a paralytic attack a year and a half ago and was bedridden since then.

Meanwhile, the UT also saw 28 fresh cases of Covid today. Among them are a 26-year-old male resident doctor, who contracted infection at the GMCH-32, and a 47-year-old man working at the PGI. Other cases were reported from Sectors 40, 18, 39, 55, 39, 55, 26, 37, 45, 51, 15, 37, 50 and 40, Bapu Dham Colony and Raipur Khurd. Meanwhile, 16 patients were discharged after they won the battle against the contagion. — TNS
